My Life in a Poem!
David A. Desautel
Form Object
All of the poems on these pages were written by myself (David
Desautel), and I retain all rights to them. A few of these poems
have been published and several have appeared in online poetry
newsgroups or on web sites. I have compiled my entire life's work
of poetry into two volumes called "My Life in a Poem - Volume I,"
and "My Life in a Poem - Volume II." This title reflects the fact that
my poems, in most cases, provide an emotional chronology of the
events in my life.

I am also working on Volume III. I intend to eventually have them
all here in the correct order, but I may add them randomly from all
three parts. The poems in Volume I were written from 1968 to 1975,
and Volume II from 1975 to sometime in the late 1980's. The
dividing line between Volume I and Volume II is marked with a
major life event - the breakup and divorce from my first wife.

I have never written poetry with the intention of having it read by
others (except a special someone). I write to release an emotion or
express an idea. Once written, the poem becomes part of myself,
but the emotion is released. Even though I have always been shy
and introverted, I have long since learned to expose myself to
others without fear. So, I invite comments on my poems. I write the
kind of poetry that I enjoy reading, which may seem too simple or
boring to some. My philosophy is that what the poem is saying is
more important than how it is written, so a simple, easy to read
style is preferred. One of my newer poems ("Writing Poetry" is an
expression of my feelings toward poetry.
